Hydrogen Fuel-Cell Buses and Infrastructure in NYC
Diesel-powered transportation is a major source of harmful air pollution, a fact that many Bronx residents know well, as the borough faces worse air quality than any county in New York State. The project will deploy two hydrogen fuel-cell buses on eight MTA bus routes in the Bronx. The buses will be supported by a new hydrogen fueling station at the MTA’s Gun Hill Depot, using hydrogen produced using green energy.

Bronx is Breathing
"The Bronx is Breathing: Reimagining a Cleaner Hunts Point" is addressing the Bronx's Hunts Point neighborhood's longstanding environmental and economic inequities related to transportation emissions. The project focuses on reducing emissions from trucking in Hunts Point wholesale food market ecosystem, providing public charging opportunities for Hunts Point-based fleets, and empowering Hunts Point residents with green jobs and workforce training.

Sustainable Last-Mile Delivery in Dense Metros
The project is deploying and demonstrating sustainable methods of last-mile delivery using electric heavy-duty, automotive grade Fulpra Quatro bikes, paired with maritime middle-mile transportation, to create a model that can be scaled throughout New York City and replicated in other large cities to reduce traffic emissions and congestion caused by dramatic increases in last-mile delivery and e-commerce.

In 2024 alone, Empire Clean Cities and its stakeholders displaced millions of gallons of petroleum and cut greenhouse gas emissions across New York City and the Lower Hudson Valley.
