Empire Clean Cities' mission has always been to ensure clean air for future generations. Our work to improve local air quality and the sustainability of the transportation systems in New York cannot be done without first acknowledging the disproportionate health and quality of life impacts that communities of color face from climate change. As an environmental nonprofit, we believe there can be no environmental justice without racial justice. Recent events around the nation, as well as the past few months of the race-related health outcomes of COVID-19, have left us devastated, heartbroken, and full of reflection about our organization's role in the racial justice movement.
ECC stands in solidarity with communities of color faced with these incredible injustices. We condemn racism in all its forms and we are committed to continuing to listen, learn, and take action through our work as an organization and as individuals. We commit to amplifying the voices of our Black colleagues and work alongside all our partners to address race disparities in air quality and climate issues moving forward.
